Set up a TikTok Business Account
Any TikTok account works with ZippityOne — but we recommend a Business Account (TikTok calls it a Verified Business Account): its Commercial Music Library keeps your content cleared for commercial use. Here's how to switch yours over (or start from scratch), in about ten minutes plus TikTok's review time.
What you'll need
- A phone with the TikTok app — TikTok's official instructions for switching account types are for the app
- A TikTok account (free — step 1 covers creating one)
- Your business information, and possibly business documents — what TikTok asks for varies by location
- Access to the email address linked to your TikTok account — that's where the verification result is sent
Step by step
- 1
Create a TikTok account — skip this if you already have one
Download the TikTok app from the App Store or Google Play, open it, choose a sign-up method, and follow the steps. Tip: sign up with an email you actually check — TikTok sends the business-verification result to the email linked to your account.
- 2
Open your profile
In the TikTok app, tap “Profile” at the bottom of the screen.
- 3
Open your settings
Tap the Menu (☰) button at the top, then select “Settings and privacy”.
- 4
Go to Account
Tap “Account”.
- 5
Start business verification
Tap “Business verification”, then follow the prompts to switch your account type. You'll be asked to submit your business information — and, depending on your location, business documents.
Heads up: this is not the blue verified badge. TikTok treats business verification and the verified badge as two separate things.
- 6
Wait for TikTok's confirmation
TikTok says business verification can take up to 5 business days. When your business is verified, you'll get an in-app notification and a confirmation email at the address linked to your TikTok account. You can check progress on the app's Business verification page — the same place you started in step 5.
Full details are in TikTok's official article, Account types on TikTok.
Common snags
Your music options change
Business Accounts use TikTok's Commercial Music Library — songs and sounds pre-cleared for commercial use. They don't get the general music library, because those songs are restricted to personal entertainment use. If a trending sound suddenly isn't available after you switch, that's why.
Don't flip back and forth
TikTok advises against switching between a Business Account and a regular (General) account. Your verification isn't saved — switch back, and you'll have to verify your business all over again. If you also want to post personal videos, TikTok recommends keeping two separate accounts.
Skipping verification can undo your Business Account
TikTok may ask you to verify your business to keep your Business Account features. If you don't, your account can be automatically converted back to a regular account. If that happens, look for the prompt or banner about business verification on your profile, tap “Verify”, and resubmit your business information.
