Create a Threads profile
ZippityOne posts to Threads through your Threads profile — and any Threads profile works, no business account needed. If you already use Instagram, setting one up takes about two minutes.
What you'll need
- An Instagram account — a Threads profile is created by signing in with your Instagram (or Facebook) account
- A phone with the Threads app — free on the App Store and Google Play
- Your Instagram username and password
Step by step
- 1
Have an Instagram account ready
Threads profiles are created by signing in with an Instagram or Facebook account — Meta allows one Threads profile for each account you have. For a business, use the Instagram account your business runs on (if you don't have one yet, our Instagram guide covers that first).
- 2
Download the Threads app
Get the Threads app from the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android), then open it.
- 3
Continue with Instagram
Tap “Continue with Instagram”, enter your Instagram username and password, and log in. Threads carries your Instagram username over.
- 4
Confirm your profile
Review the information about your Threads experience, then tap “Confirm” at the bottom. You can edit your bio, links, and profile picture on Threads at any time afterwards.
- 5
Choose public and join
Select whether you want a public or private profile and tap “Continue” — for a business, pick public so customers can see your posts. Then review the notes on content visibility and tap “Join Threads”.
Full official instructions are in the help article, Create a profile on Threads.
Common snags
An Instagram login screen when connecting? That's normal
Seeing an Instagram login when you connect Threads is normal — your Threads profile is tied to the Instagram (or Facebook) account you created it with. Log in with that account and carry on.
Your follows and followers don't carry over automatically
Who you follow and who follows you on Threads is separate — Instagram is explicit that Threads follows won't affect your following or followers on Instagram or Facebook. Expect to build your Threads audience from zero, even with an established Instagram.
Some profile details can only be changed on Instagram
Bio, links, and profile picture can be edited on Threads directly. Other details — like your username and personal information — are managed on the Instagram account you used to create the profile. And if that Instagram account is verified, your profile picture can only be changed on Instagram.
