Create a LinkedIn Company Page
ZippityOne can post to a personal profile or a Company Page — most businesses want a Company Page: your business's own page, separate from your personal profile. Creating one is free and takes about ten minutes.
What you'll need
- A personal LinkedIn profile with your real first and last name — you can't create a Page without one
- A confirmed email address on that profile
- Some LinkedIn connections — LinkedIn wants to see enough connections before it lets you create a Page
- A computer or an iPhone — the LinkedIn Android app can't create Pages
Step by step
- 1
Sign in to LinkedIn with your personal profile
Go to linkedin.com and sign in as yourself. A Company Page is always created from a personal profile — you'll manage the Page, but it lives separately from your profile.
- 2
Open the For Business menu
Click the “For Business” icon in the upper-right corner of your LinkedIn homepage.
- 3
Choose Create a Company Page
Scroll down and click “Create a Company Page”, then select “Company” as the Page type. (The other options — Showcase page and Educational institution — aren't what a small business needs.)
- 4
Fill in your business details
Enter your Page identity, company details, and profile details: your company name, the Page's public LinkedIn URL, your website, industry, company size, company type, and an optional tagline.
The URL becomes linkedin.com/company/your-business-name. It can use lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens; it needs at least one character that isn't a number, and it can't have uppercase letters, back-to-back hyphens, or hyphens at the start or end.
- 5
Confirm you're authorized, then create the Page
Select the verification box to confirm you have the right to act on behalf of the company, then click “Create page” and “Start building your page!”. You're now the Page's super admin — you can add other admins later.
- 6
Finish the Page before you share it
Add your logo, description, and the rest of the sections. LinkedIn reports that complete Pages get 30 percent more weekly views — and a bare Page looks abandoned to customers.
On an iPhone instead? In the LinkedIn app, go to any LinkedIn Page, tap the “More” icon and select “Create a LinkedIn Page”, then follow the same details above (on iPhone the page types are Company or Educational institution, and you finish by tapping Create in the upper-right). Full official instructions are in LinkedIn's help article, Create a LinkedIn Page.
Common snags
Brand-new or bare profiles can't create Pages
LinkedIn expects the profile creating a Page to look real: your actual first and last name, a confirmed email address, and enough connections. If you just signed up and the create button won't cooperate, connect with a handful of people you know and confirm your email first.
Your business may already have a Page
LinkedIn asks you to make sure a Page doesn't already exist for your organization before creating one. Search your business name on LinkedIn first — an employee or a previous marketer may have created a Page years ago. Duplicates confuse customers and split your followers.
No luck on your Android phone
Creating a LinkedIn Page is not supported in the Android app — that's LinkedIn's rule, not a glitch. Use a computer (easiest) or the iOS app. Once the Page exists, you can manage and post to it from anywhere.
